2020 Duck Shooting Season

LFA recently made a submission to the respective Ministers for Agriculture and for Energy, Environment and Climate Change highlighting the cruelty of duck shooting and how environmentally and socially destructive this practice is.

LFA calls for the immediate suspension of the 2020 season and renews the submission that duck shooting be permanently stopped in Victoria.  This is critical given the environmental catastrophe unleashed so far this summer with the bush fire emergency across Australia.

It is extremely disappointing to see that the South Australian government announced a duck shooting season for 2020. Link to the submission:

Horse Racing

The cruelty of horseracing in Australia is usually overlooked due to its social and historical significance.

Racing places enormous pressure on the immature skeletal systems of young horses and regularly leads to lung-bleeding, while a high incidence of stomach ulcers occurs from the high-concentrate grain diets.

Slower or injured horses are routinely discarded by the industry. An estimated 20,000 horses end up at Australian slaughterhouses or ‘knackeries’ each year, with thousands enduring hellish journeys over many days to reach the abattoirs. Much of the horse meat is then shipped to Asia and Europe.
